The Holy Spirit Catholic Church, Amaroo is part of the Gungahlin/Holy Spirit Parish and part of the Archdiocese of Canberra & Goulburn. The earliest Masses in the area, in the mid to late 1800s, were celebrated in private homes, by visiting priests. It was announced by the government in 1972, that the district of Gungahlin would be resumed for the anticipated growth of Canberra. This was the setting for the future parish which is the youngest in the Archdiocese. The first Mass was celebrated in a house rented by the Ursuline Sisters on 14/2/1993. When the Holy Spirit School was opened in 1996, its facilities were used for Mass until the church building was completed. The Good Shepherd School was completed in 2002. The need for larger facilities to meet the needs of the growing congregation, led to the present church building being erected on part of the Good Shepherd School campus. It was completed in 2007 and dedicated on 14/2/2008 by Archbishop Mark Coleridge. The present parish office and presbytery were opened on 19/5/2013. More historical information/photographs of the church/congregation are invited. Photographs uploaded 18/11/2025.
