| Foundation Stone Notes: | A plaque beneath the statue records: St Thomas Mores - School & Assembly Hall - Blessed - by - Archbishop E O'Brien - 26th July 1964. An information document records: Campbell - St Thomas More, 1964. - In the latter part of 1950 the Defence Department was transferred to Canberra and the suburb of Campbell was developed as part of that goverment plan. A Catholic primary school was built and an order of nuns from Glasnevan in Ireland - the Holy Faith Nuns - arrived in 1961. Campbell became a parish in 1964 under the delegated authority of the Australian Military Vicariate, the first parish priest being the Chaplain General (of the Army) Fr Aloysius Morgan, who in 1969 became the Catholic Bishop of the Australian Forces. The Royal Military College and the Australian Defence Force College as well as the offices of the Australian Defence Force exist within the parish. |

The St Thomas More Catholic Church, Campbell is now part of the Campbell (Inner North)/St Thomas More Parish and the Archdiocese of Canberra & Goulburn.
St Thomas' Campbell first became a parish in 1964, under the the delegated authority of the Australian Military Vicariate, the first parish priest, Fr Aloysius Morgan, being the Chaplain General (of the Army). In 1969 he became the Catholic Bishop of the Australian Forces1.
The St Thomas school built about 1960, was established by the Sisters of Holy Faith in 1961, with a significant percentage of the children coming from Defence families. The church and school in the early days shared facilities. The St Thomas More Parish celebrated its sixtieth anniversary on 17/11/2024.
