The St Matthew's Anglican Church, Wanniassa is in the Parish of Wanniassa and the Diocese of Canberra & Goulburn. St Matthew's was established when the area was being developed, holding its first service in the Wanniassa Primary School library on 24/10/1976. The present church building was dedicated in October 1984.
However, "the story of gospel ministry in Wanniassa begins on 4 July 1838. It was then when Edward Smith, aged 33, offered himself for service in the colonies with the Society for the Propagation of the Gospel. Robert Campbell, of Duntroon fame, provided a residence and the greater part of his stipend. Smith's ministry took in Ginninderra to the north west and reached into the Tuggeranong in the south, following the circuit-model of ministry. Every first Sunday in the month he would ride eight miles from Mt Campbell to conduct services in Wanniassa1.
More historical information/photographs of the church/congregation are invited. Photographs upoaded 2/10/2025.
