The former St Luke's Anglican Church, Deakin had been part of the Anglican Diocese of Canberra & Goulburn. The church's genesis can be traced to services held at the Yarralumla Brickworks in May 1914, and later at Westlake in July 1923. The work subsided, and it was not until a house visitation program in September 1949, inviting residents to a service at Westridge Hall on 9/10/1949, that a regular congregation began again. This continued until 1956, when services moved to the Yarralumla Primary School. As St Paul's, Manuka was reportedly too far to tarvel without cars, it was decided to create a Parish of Yarraluma and erect a new church building  This was undertaken with the building being opened on St Luke's Day, 1959. The opening address being given by Professor Norman Pittinger of New York. A large increase in the local population, in the early 1960s, together with a large turnover of parishioners, led to strains on the church to  meet the local population needs. However, this was a passing phase, and by the early 1970s the viability of the church was being questioned. By the mid 1980s the congregation again increased, and a new wing was added to the building in 1885, to meet the needs of the congregation. However ,the congregation continued to fluctuate despite significant effort by many church leaders, with the building ceased being used by the congregation in 2016. No other details are known. More historical information/photographs of the former church/congregation are invited. Photographs uploaded 8/10/2025.
