A brass plaque at the front of the chapel records: Chapel at Leslie Nott Afforestation Camp - Laurel Hill - Consecrated on Monday 7th July 1969 - Dedication by Most Reverend F P Carroll, DD, DCL and R.T. Reverend C A Warren. - The design of this chapel was selected from numerous entries submitted by - architectural students from the University of New South Wales.- Under supervision of a Tradesman Prison Officer - the chapel was commenced in 1967 and built by prison labour - The 'A' frames of the building were cut from local mountain ash hardwood - as were the 24,000 shingles used for the roof - The lining was milled in Tumut, from Pinus radiata grown in this area. -The interior furnishings were made by inmates of the Goulburn Training Centre - This project was greatly assisted by the Local Officers of the Forestry Commission of NSW.

The former Laurel Hill Chapel building was consecrated on 7/7/1969, and used as a Chapel at the Leslie Nott Afforestation Camp, Laurel Hill. The chapel has now closed and the building was relocated to its present site in the mid 1980s. The chapel was erected to serve the Laurel Hill Prison Farm which was established in 1957. It was renamed the Leslie Nott Afforestation Camp in 1958 and then the Laurel Hill Forest Camp. It operated under the direction of the Forestry Commission of NSW.
