The former Barcaldine Uniting Church has closed, and the property is listed for sale (2026). The church had been part of the Presbytery of Central Queensland and the Uniting Church Synod of Queensland. The Barcaldine Uniting (Methodist) Church "was the first to open a church in Baracldine, in Ash Street - the first Primitive Methodist Church. Like other buildings in town, it arrived by rail, following the progress of the line, and being moved from town to town. It finally settled in Barcaldine in 1887.
Services, a Sunday School as well as a day school were held in it until 1892 when it was considered beyond repair and demolished.
A new church was built on a different site - in Maple Street - opening in 1893. Rev Little held the first service there in Easter week. The same building is now used as a church hall". [Sourced from: https://barcaldine-peopleplacesthings.org/methodist/]. The Primitive Methodist Church became part of the Methodist Church at Union in 1902. The present church building was opened on 21/4/1962 for the Methodist Church, by Rev N H Grimmett, President of Conference. It became part of the Uniting Church in 1977. More historical information/photographs of the former church/congregation are invited. Photographs uploaded 15/10/2020.
