The Port Macquare Uniting Church is part of the Mid North Coast Presbytery and the Uniting Church Synod of NSW & ACT. Since 1995 its main church building complex has been located at 1 Sherwood Road (see separate entry - 2444), although the church continues to maintain services in the original Wesley Chapel, in Horton Street. The first church building in Horton Street was opened about 1837, with a new brick chapel building commenced in 1840, holding its first service on 30/11/1845. Over the years the church in line with the towns fortunes has waxed and waned, with additions and renovations to the building to meet the needs of the congregation. A larger church building was erected in the early 1960s, and used unitil 1995, when the Sherwood Road Worship Centre was opened. The Horton Street property was subsequently sold, but the historic Chapel is still used by the Uniting Church. The original church building was erected for the Wesleyan Methodist Church which became part of the Methodist Church at Union in 1902, and part of the Uniting Church in 1977. The building is also used for services by the St George Indian Orthodox Church, Port Macquarie. More historical information/photographs of the church(es)/congregation(s) are invited. Photographs upoaded 20/2/2026.
