The former Salvation Army - New Town Corps closed in 1967, and the property was sold. The New Town Corps was opened on 8/2/1913 at this site. It was opened by Captain James Hay. The New Town Corps was an outpost of the Hobart Salvation Army. It also started the Moonah Outpost which became the Moondah Corps in 1930. The first Officers of the New Town Corps were Captain and Mrs Perry. After the Salvation Army closed the property was purchased by the Southern Presbyterian Church. After its closure the building was for a time used as a Presbyterian Bookshop1. More historical information/photographs of the former church/congregation are invited. Photographs uploaded 27/2/2015.
Note 1: Indebted to Debby Rimon for the information on the Salvation Army.[Email 25/11/2025].
