The Salvation Army - Alice Springs Corps is part of the Salvation Army Australia, an international movement, which holds regular worship at this location. The Salvation Army began tentative activities in Alice Springs in the 1930s, with members travelling annually from Quorn, nearly one thousand miles away. In 1965 activities increased and a property was purchased. The first open air meeting was held on 11/7/1965, with the Corps officially opening on 18/7/1965, in the United Church. The property at 88 Hartley Street was purchased on 19/6/1967 for the officers quarters. It is now the Thrift Shop and Welfare Office. The building of Red Shield House in Stuart Terrace began in 1970. Many changes in the activities of the Corps, and properties, have been made over the years, to meet the needs of the community, especially since activities with the local Aboriginal population have been undertaken1. More historical information/photographs of the church/congregation are invited. Photographs uploaded 11/9/2025.
