The former St Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Kilmore has closed, and the property is now privately owned. St Andrew's was founded about 1855. During the Rev Hume's ministry, at the St George's Presbyterian Church, Kilmore (see separate entry - 3674) dissention split that Church into Highlanders and Lowlanders, leading to the formation of two congregations. St George's the original one, and St Andrew's the Highlanders. A church building for the new, St Andrew's congregation was completed in 1865, on the site of the first Kilmore Courthouse. The church building cost about 1,150 pounds. The two Kilmore Churches were eventually reconciled and formally reunited in August 1878, as the Presbyterian Church of Kilmore. The new minister was the Rev D S Maxwell who remained for eleven months smoothing the path for his successor, the Rev John Steele MA, who served for twenty four years1. No other details are known. More historical information/photographs of the former church/congregation are invited. Photographs uploaded 4/3/2023.
