The former Holdsworth Memorial Presbyterian Church closed about 1963, and the property was sold. 'In 1887 Presbyterians first began meeting in a barn at Limestone Wells (Winninowie), 15 miles from Port Augusta. In 1890 a weatherboard church was opened in the presence of 70 local people. Services were held fortnightly, and the were active Christian Endeavour, Sunday school and youth groups. A new church building was erected in 1938, but closed in 1960. By this time the district, like many, was experienceing the agriculture decline which saw the rise of many ghost towns in the mid-north affecting, amongst other things. the viability of country churches1.
