St George Greek Orthodox Church

The  St George Greek Orthodox Church, Mile End is part of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Australia. Formal efforts to erect a church in Adelaide began with a request to the Archbishop on 14/12/1959, approval being granted by him on 4/1/1960. Early services were held in the Methodist Church in Mile End, while efforts to locate a suitable church site were undertaken. By the end of 1960 the community had agreed to purchase the present site and erect a prefabricated church building. By 1963 plans to erect a larger church building were underway, with the building being opened by Archbishop Ezekiel on 14/8/1966. A Greek Orthodox College was opened in February 1984.
