The St Ilija Macedonian Orthodox Church, Queanbeyan is part of the Macedonian Orthodox Diocese of Australia - Sydney. The Church had its beginnings in Queanbeyan about 1958, formally becoming the Macedonian Orthodox Church in 1969. A building for use as a church was purchased in 1966, and on 19/4/1969 was dedicated by Bishops Kiri and Metodjii as the St Illia's Macedonian Orthodox Church1, and consecrated on 20/4/1969. The building had originally been opened as The Protestant Hall on 31/5/18772 , then used by the Salvation Army for a period from 1884, and subsequently by others for various activities. This building was demolished in 1993-94 to make way for the construction of the present church building, which was opened on 2/8/1996. More historical information/photographs of the church/congregation are invited. Photographs uploaded 5/11/2025.
