The St Elijah the Prophet Serbian Orthodox Church, Coober Pedy is part of the Metropolitanate of Australia and New Zealand Serbian Orthodox Church. The complex includes a church, a community hall, a parish house and a school all carved in sandstone between 3 and 17 metres below ground level. The complex was tunnelled in stages starting with the hall, which held its first Liturgy in 1992. In August 1993 the church tunnelling was complete, but as an Orthodox Church is not complete without icons, this took further time. A consecration of the church building was celebrated on St Elijah's day 2/8/1993, with the final consecration celebrated on 2/8/1995 by Bishop Luka and Bishop Dalmatia Longin. The land/hill for the church building was donated by Svetozar Puhach. More historical information/photographs of the church/congregation are invited. Photographs uploaded 15/9/2025.
