A plaque records: Maybanke Kindergarten - This building was originally a Methodist Chapel built in the 1870s on land belonging to quarry master Charles Saunders. In the 1920s Maybanke Free Kindergarten, one of the first of its kind in NSW, opened here. It was named for the feminist and kindergarten pioneer, Maybanke Anderson
