This former St John's Lutheran Church, Mount Alford held its final service on 29/1/1989, conducted by Pastor Kevin Kotzor. The church  was dedicated on 28/4/1909, by the Rev Langebecker, at that time President of the Lutheran Synod. The church when it closed had been serving the community for about 80 years. Prior to 1909, the St John's congregation were members of the Dugandan Lutheran Church (previously called St Paul's Lutheran Church, now called Trinity Lutheran Church), which had opened in 1889. Due to poor roads, Pastor Seybold, of the Dugandan Parish, began holding services for members in Mount Alford, in the School of Arts, in April 1908. This led to the planning/building of St John's, on land donated by Mr Wissemann, and erected by local tradesmen, primarily members of the Behrendorff family. Materials and church furnishings were donated by members of the congregation. The church building was lined shortly before its 25th anniversary in April 1936. Many of the altar appointments, upon closure of the church, have been gifted to the Lismore Parish. The former property is now privately owned. More historical information/photographs of the former church/congregation are invited. Photographs uploaded 15/4/2017.
