Trinity Lutheran Church

The Trinity Lutheran Church, Dugandan was established in 1889, and is part of the Queensland District of the Lutheran Church of Australa. The Dugandan Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, adjoins the church, and was established about 1901. The hall behind the church was previously the Lutheran church building at Teviotville. No other details are known. More historical information/photographs of the church/congregation are invited. Photographs uploaded 14/3/2017 & 6/5/2026.

The following additional information was provided by email by Deb Stenzel on 19/4/2026:

"My great grandfather (August Stenzel) and his brother-in-law (Adam Bartholomai) were key players in getting this church established.  They had previously been attending Mutdapilly Lutheran Church (founding families for that one).  It was at least a days' horse-ride away, a bit south of Ipswich.  Once they selected land south of Boonah (not a town, back then, in the late 1860s/early 1870s), they were keen to get a closer church. - Land was donated by Carl Wickmann for the church.  The land for the adjacent cemetery was donated later. - Church opened 24 May 1889.  There is a list of people who donated money towards the church in the local paper - just about everyone in the community, of all denominations, donated. [see - p1 - 04 Jul 1889 - Queensland Times, Ipswich Herald and General Advertiser (Qld. : 1861 - 1908) - Trove] - Adjacent cemetery opened 1901 - it is a Lutheran cemetery, specifically associated with this church.  Still in use. - This church is still going very strong!  Drove past it again this morning (it is on the way from my house in to Boonah township), and the car park was full of cars, as usual.  Beautiful old church, with an upstairs gallery..."
