The former Richmond Congregational Church has closed, and the property was sold in June 2016. This is the second Congregational church building in Richmond. The first was erected in Torrens Street, on land donated by Mr John Buscombe, and opened on 3/12/1845. This building was burnt down. It was located near the site of the Richmond Congregational Cemetery. The present building in Bridge Street was opened on 7/10/1876, with much of the impetus for the funding and erection of the building due to effort of three women. This is the only Congregational Church in Tasmania that did not form part of the Uniting Church in Australia, at its formation in 1977. It became part of the Fellowship of Congregational Churches, Australia, formed by many of the remaining Congregational churches across Australia, after 1977. More historical information/photographs of the former church/congregation are invited. Photographs uploaded 29/4/2023.
