The former St Fiacre's Catholic Church, Limerick was part of the Parish of Crookwell and the Diocese of Canberra & Goulburn. The church building was blessed and opened on 28/4/1912 by Bishop John Gallagher. Prior to this date, Masses in the area were celebrated in private homes. During Fr Martin Vaughan's time as parish priest at Crookwell (1908-1940) a decision was made to build a church at Limerick. Money was raised through donations and organising of dances, with voluntary as well as paid work used to build the church. The church was used as a place of worship until the 1970s. By this time because of a shortage of priests and a dwindling congregation, the church fell into disuse. In February 1989 a few local people asked for permission to repair the church for use as a community meeting place as well as a place of worship. Permission was granted and as a result the Limerick Community Association was formed and held its inaugural meeting on 9/7/1989. On Thursday 7/9/1989 Fr Peter Murphy celebrated Mass in the repaired church. Following this, Mass was celebrated about every three months and community meetings were held regularly. Over the following years the Catholic community in Limerick dwindled further and Mass was not held from at least 2005. To celebrate the centenary of the church, a Mass was celebrated by Fr Peter Murphy on 29/4/2012. It is understood no Masses have been celebrated in the building since.
