The St Matthew's Catholic Church, Windsor was opened on 21/10/1840 by Bishop Polding. A bequest of 500 pounds by James Doyle made possible to building of the church. Before the erection of the church building, Mass was celebrated in private homes or a temporary chapel barn made of slabs. St Matthew's is the oldest Catholic Church on mainland Australia.
