Catholic Mass in the district was celebrated in private homes from about 1983. From about 1898 it was celebrated in a church school that was erected on the Pacific Highway and opposite the site of the Waitara Train Station. A church was later built at the Pacific Highway site in 1908/9. When the new Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church building was erected in 1991 it was located in Yardley Avenue.10/2/2008 saw the inauguration of Our Lady of the Rosary as the Cathedral Parish of the Diocese of Broken Bay.
