St Mary's Church, North Sydney is part of the Parish of North Sydney and the Diocese of Sydney. The first church building was a temporary wooden structure visited by Archbishop Polding in March 1856. The first 'permanent' church building was opened and blessed on 28/6/1868 by Archbishop Polding, under the name 'St Mary Star of the Sea'. On 7/9/1896 additions and alterations, to double the size of the church, were opened and blessed by Cardinal Moran. The present church building replaced the 1868 structure, and was opened and blessed, under the name 'Mary Immaculate Church' by Archbishop Gilroy on 4/12/1938.
