Comments

The former St John's Catholic Church, Beveridge closed in 1965, and the property was sold (1972). The church had been part of the Parish of Kilmore in the Diocese of Melbourne. The construction of the church nave began in 1857 and when completed about 1862, for a time was also used as a school. The chancel was added in 1877. No other details are known. More historical information/photographs of the former church/congregation are invited. Photographs uploaded 22/11/2018.

 

Note: Ned Kelly was born at Beveridge and baptised in the church by Fr Charles O'Hea. He also began attending the school in 1863 at the age of eight.
