An historical plaque in part records: [the story of a successful Italian migrant who arrived in Australia on 21/3/1879] Antonio Capararo - 14~6~1854 ~ 17~8~1931 - ...Being a devot catholic who regularly attended mass at St Helen's, just 4 days before he died Antonio bequeathed 1 sq rood (1/4 acre) of land to the trustee of St Helen's Church for the sole purpose of a cemetery for himself and family members....Sadly, Antonio's grave sits alone. It cannot be seen from his beloved church, so for those relatives wishing to visit his grave its located behind the garage. |

(The Maitland Mercury - 5 October 1867) "OPENING OF THE NEW CATHOLIC CHURCH, GRESFORD. (From a Correspondent.) This handsome and beautifully finished little church was solemnly blessed and opened on Wednesday last, by the Bishop of Maitland."
