| Foundation Stone Notes: | A plaque records: "It was resolved on the motion of Mr J B Taylor that a committee be appointed for the purpose of building a stone Church". Extract from the minutes of the Gerringong Church Committee of 26-6-1880. Fr M Keogan Presiding. The Church of St Mary, Star of the Sea was blessed and opened by Archbishop Vaughan on the 6th August 1882. Fr M Keogan PP. The stone Church replaced a small wooden Church built in 1864. The church was extended to more than double its size in 1995. Blessed by Bishop P Wilson 11th August 1996. Fr P Kenna PP. The meeting room was built in 1987 and blessed by Bishop W Murray. Fr P Kenna PP. The grave of V R Dean M P Malone Parish Priest of Kiama Parish 1905-1960. To commemorate the Jubilee Year 2000 the garden was established as a memorial to the young of the Church who lost their lives in road accidents. Fr P Kenna PP A plaque records: Remember - in your Kindness - Mary Fields - whose generous bequest to - St Mary, Star of the Sea Gerringong - in memory of her father - James Fields - contributed to the funding of - the 1996 extensions to the Church - "May they rest in peace". A plaque records: St Mary, Star of the Sea, - Gerringong - The extended Church was dedicated by - Most Reverend Philip Wilson DD JCL - 3rd Bishop of Wollongong - Sunday, August 11, 1996 - Patrick Kenna - Parish Priest. St Mary, Star of the sea - Geringong - Time Capsule - 1996 ~ 2016. A plaque records: Jesus said to his disciples - "Do not let your hearts be troubled; Trust in God still, and trust in me, there are many rooms in my Father's house". John 14:1-2 With the families who mourn for them we in the community of St Mary, Star of the Sea, Gerringong remember in prayer these young Australians who met their death in local road accidents and whose funeral rites were celebrated in this church.
