Land for the first Catholic Church in Kilcoy (previously known as Hopetoun) was gifted by the Hope family, who were Anglicans. A church was built with the first Mass held on 11/4/1909. The church was originally known as "The Church of the Sacred Heart", but the name was changed to "St Michael's Catholic Church" sometime during the 1920's.
