The following background was received by email on 1/5/2026 from John R Ecob DD.
"The Bundarra baptist church was started by my father Pastor T R A ECOB when he was pastor of Armidale Baptist Church between 1943 and 1945. - After he preached on radio station 2AD a farm worker with several children had found a Bible on the road while driving his sulky. - He read it and decided he needed to be baptised by immersion and not sprinkling. He rang Dad and when dad asked if he was saved he did not know what that meant so Dad went to Bundarra and shared the Gospel of Christ with him and his family after which they prayed and received assurance of salvation. - Dad started the church and other farmers who were christians joined. They met in the public hall in the main street. - In 1945 when Dad left to pastor the Hurstville Baptist Church in Sydney, his final sunday service was at Bundarra and there were about 30 present. - They gave us a farewell lunch under the bridge by the river and I can remember the large turkey a farmer brought. - In 2025 my son drove me to the places of my childhood and we visited Bundarra. The public hall was still in the main street. - I have often prayed for Bundarra and wondered if there was a gospel testimony in the town".
