St Matthias' Anglican Church - Former

The former St Matthias' Anglican Church, Myponga closed in 1981, and the property was sold. Land for the church was granted in 1870, with the church building opened for services in 1875, although the building was also used as a school until the government school was opened in 1883. The total cost of the church building and the teacher's cottage was 625 pounds. The church tower was added in 1883, and in 1905 renovations were carried out, including the installation of a bell in the belfry. The land containg the cottage was sub-divided in 1923, and transferred  to another party. By the 1960s, church attendance had declined, and in May 1981 a decision was made to close the church. The church had celebrated its centenary on 8/6/1975. More historical information/photographs of the former church/congregation are invited. Photographs uploaded 7/11/2021.
