A plaque records: To the Glory of God - First Church on The Darling - On the occasion of the 150th Anniversary of the Town of Wentworth - This plaque commemorates the laying of the - foundation stone of St John the Evangelist - on the 23rd May, 1871 and the untiring work - of the first Rector William Cocks 1827 ~ 1895 - Unveiled by - The Bishop of Riverina - The Right Reverend Dr Douglas Stevens - on 21st June 2009.

A stone tablet records: A M D G - This new foundation stone was laid by - The Right Reverend Donald Kirk - Bishop of Riverina on the 23rd May 2021 - to commemorate the Sesqui-Centenary - of the laying of the original - Foundation Stone on the 23rd May 1871 - by His Honour Judge Francis. - Titus 2:13 'Wait for the blessed hope'.

The St John's Anglican Church, Wentworth is part of the Parish of Wentworth and the Diocese of Riverina. The church building was erected to the design of the Rev A D Soames, and dedicated about 1871.
