Comments

The present St Barnabas Anglican Church (Barneys), Ultimo was opened in June 2012, and is located around the corner from the site of the previous church building. It replaced the earlier building after it was burnt down on 10/5/2006. It had at least two notable parishioners. The first was Thomas Smith. a drunkard turned evangelist, who came to Sydney in 1865, and asked to be sent to 'the worst place in the colony'. Within a few years he had had a profound impact on the life and work of the church. A second was Arthur Stace, a member of the congregation, who attracted attention for writing the word 'eternity' on the streets of Sydney from the 1940s to the 1960s. Today, the church, due to its location, has a special ministry to international tertiary students. More historical information/photographs of the church(es)/congregation are invited. Photographs uploaded 18/2/2021.
