The first Anglican services in the district were held in a tent and date from about 1840. The first St Andrew's Anglican Church, Brighton building was a church/school dedicated on 30/11/1842 by the Rev Adam Compton Thompson. This was replaced by the second church building, opened on 12/10/1851 by the Rev William Brickwood. To cater for the growing congregation a third church building was erected in 1857. This building was largely destroyed by fire on 19/2/1961. The replacement building retained the west end of the 1857 building and erected a cathedral status building in the place of what had been destroyed. This was opend on 15/12/1962 in the presence of Sir Dallas Brooks, Governor of Victoria and the Most Rev Frank Woods, Archbishop of Melbourne. A small pre-gold rush graveyard is located in the church grounds. More historical information/photographs of the church/congregation are invited. Photographs uploaded 28/1/2021.
