The St Luke's Anglican Church, Wallsend is built on land donated by the Newcastle Wallsend Coal Company in 1862. Until the timber-slab school-church was erected and opened on 12/3/1864, services were held in the blacksmith's shop at the mine.The present church was opened and dedicated on 12/12/1880 by Bishop Pearson.
