(The Sydney Gazette - 25 June 1840)   "Church of the Holy Trinity Parish of St. Phillip's. On Tuesday, 23rd June, the interesting ceremony, of laying the corner, or foundation-stone, of a new Temple, dedicated to the Holy Trinity, was performed by The Right Reverend the Lord Bishop of Australia; attended, by the, Rev. the Senior Chaplain of New South Wales (Mr. Cowper), Incumbent of St. Phillip's, and several other Clergymen."

The foundation stone was laid by Rev W G Broughton DD, First and only Bishop of Australia.

Notice Board records: The Garrison Church - Holy Trinity Millers Point, Sydney - This is the first Garrison Church in Australia. The foundation stone was laid - on 23rd June 1840, by the Rev W G Broughton DD first and only Bishop - of Australia. Henry Ginn and Edmund Blacket were the Architects. - The Red Coats of the 50th Queens Own Regiment at Dawes Point Battery - (demolished in 1932) attended Morning Prayer regularly from 1840 to 1880. - Sir Edmund Barton, First Prime Minister of the Commonwealth had his - primary education at the Parish Hall in the school which existed from 1846 - to 1901. The East window in the church was given in 1860 by Dr James Mitchell - whose son David Scott Mitchell gave the Mitchell Library to NSW - Rector...Rev Brian Seers.
