A plaque at the site of the original St James' Anglican Church records: Northam/Katrine Heritage Trail - Site of the original St James' Church - The foundation stone for the St James' Anglican Church was laid on the old Toodyay to York Road in 1861 when it was thought that the town of Northan would develop nearby. - Convict stone masons were employed during construction and the church was consecrated in 1855 [28/5/1855]. It was pulled down in 1904 and a new St James' was built in Northam in 1911... [the laying of the foundation stone and consecration dates are not understood]. A memorial cross in memory of the founders of St James Anglican Church, Northam records: To - the Glory of - God - and in memory of - The Founders of - St James Church - This cross was erected - by the - former worshippers and their children - 1st June 1908 - Consecrated 28th May 1865. - FredK Morrell d 1899: William Chidlow d 1879; Geo Christmass d 1879: Abraham Morgan d 1871; John T Cooke d 1875; Jacob Delmage d 1910.
