(The Sydney Herald - 29 April 1840) "SOUTH CREEK The new church of St. Mary Magdalene, at South Creek, was consecrated by the Lord Bishop of Australia, on Wednesday last. The church, which is a very neat brick building, elegantly fitted up to contain about five hundred persons, has been erected by subscription, on a piece of ground given for that purpose by Captain Philip Parker King R.N., M.C. [son of Governor King]). The church was said to be modelled after the family church of the third Governor of NSW Captain Philip Gidley King in his home in Launceston, Cornwall."
A cemetery adjoins the church.
