Foundation Stone Notes: | (Goulburn Evening Penny Post - 29 April 1884) "ST. SAVIOUR'S CATHEDRAL, GOULBURN. On the 15th of January, 1874, the corner stone of the beautiful pile that occupies a commanding site facing Montague-street was laid by the Bishop of Goulburn. The Hon. J. Campbell, M.L.C., and the Bishops of Bathurst and Newcastle assisted. From unavoidable causes the late Metropolitan, Dr. Barker, was unable to be present. The late E. T. Blackett, Esq., of Sydney, was the architect of the building, and so long as the sacred edifice stands it will be a monument to his skill and taste." (The Sydney Mail - 24 January 1874) "ST. SAVIOUR'S NEW CATHEDRAL, GOULBURN. This ceremony was performed on the 15th instant, by the Bishop of Goulburn, assisted by the Hon. John Campbell, the Bishops of Newcastle and Bathurst, and the Dean of Goulburn. Morning service was held at 11 o'clock in the present building, when there was a crowded congregation, and the Bishop of Newcastle preached an eloquent and impressive sermon appropriate to the occasion."
