The St Peter's by the Lake Anglican Church is in the Parish of Paynesville and part of the Diocese of Gippsland. The first service at Toonalook (now Paynesville) on the Gippsland Lakes took place on 30/11/1879, conducted by the Rev Ernest Hartmann, from Bairnsdale. The present church building was opened and dedicated on 25/3/1961 by Bishop Garnsey. The church was consecrated on 4/7/1976 by Bishop Delbridge. The church site also includes a 'Quiet Garden' including a labyrinth, for the use of parishioners and the public. More historical information/photographs of the church/congregation are invited.
