St Peter's Church

The St Peter's Church, Nile is now part of the Nile Chapel Association INC. The church building was erected by Mr James Cox, the local land owner, who gave three acres for the construction of a school/church. The building was used as a school during the week and for services on Sunday. The date of construction is taken as about 1853. The building was renovated and a Chancel, Vestry and Tower added in 1893, funded by an endowment left by Mr Cox, and consecrated on 29/6/1893, by the Bishop of Tasmania, the Rev Montgomery.  It is not clear if St Peter's is still functioning as a church?.  A cemetery is located near the church.
