The first Mass in Wahgunyah was said about 1869, by Fr William Tierney PP, of Beechworth. The present church building was a deserted wooden church relocated from the old mining centre at Chiltern Valley, to its current site in 1929. It was re-erected on land donated in Dennison Street by two brothers, Artthur and Ted Bayliss.
