The foundation stone was laid on 20/12/1870 by the Very Rev Hussey Burgh Macaratney, DD., Dean of Melbourne. The stone has not been located. 

A stone tablet records: This church was opened - November 26th 1871 - and was consecrated - November 24th 1945.

A plaque on the gate pillar records: These gates were erected - by his family - in memory of - Charles F D Thomson - who died on active service - in New Guinea - 21~2~1943 - Aged 22.

A plaque records: This tree was planted by - His Excellency, The Governor of Victoria, - Major General, Sir Rohan Delacombe - KCMG KCVO KBE CB DSO K St J - on the occasion of his visit to celebrate - the centenary - St Paul's Church - 28th November 1971.

A plaque records: This bell tower was dedicated - on 1~12~1991 - in memory of - Emily Patricia Lobb - 11~6~1927 - 31~7~1989 - A faithful and loved member - of St Paul's Church.
