The St Patrick's Catholic Cathedral, Ballarat is the Seat of the Bishop of Ballarat. The first Catholic Mass in the district was celebrated about 1851. The present church building was officially opened in 1871, although Mass has been celebrated in it since 8/11/1863. The Cathedral was formally consecrated in 1891 by Cardinal Moran from Sydney.The church building was extensively renovated in 1999.
