St Raphael's Anglican Church

The St Raphael's Anglican Church, Fern Tree, is part of the Parish of South Hobart and the Diocese of Tasmania. By 1890, Anglican services in the district were being held in private homes and later in the Fern Tree Inn. As an Inn was not considered an appropriate place to hold the services, this gave impetus to erect a church building. The land and a monetary donation were given by Henry and Emily Dobson, with the balance of the costs being met by local residents and congregation members. The church building was consecrated in February 1893. Since it was erected the church has been the only building in Fern Tree to survive bushfires in 1898 and 1967.  More historical information/photographs of the church/congregation are invited.
