Built in 1859 as a Free Church of Scotland, it became a Presbyterian Church in 1896. The opening services was held in 1860. The opening day - morning service was conducted by Rev W Nicolson, Chalmers Free Church, Hobart Town, the afternoon service by Rev W Law, minister Congregational Church, St Johns Square, and the evening service by the minister Rev J Lindsay.
