St Matthew's Anglican Church

The St Matthew's Anglican Church, New Norfolk is part of the Parish of New Norfolk and the Diocese of Tasmania. This may be the site of the oldest church in Tasmania, with the original building opened in August 1825. It was consecrated by Archdeacon Scott from Sydney in May 1828. The original building was of such poor quality that repairs were needed shortly after completion. Consequently over the years, with repairs needing to be undertaken, enlargements and additions little of the original building remains, hence the site of the oldest church in Tasmania may be a more accurate description.
