The Wantagong Uniting Church is now closed, and the property privately owned. Wantagong was established, about 1900, as a preaching place associated with the Holbrook (John Knox) Presbyterian Church. As part of the jubilee celebrations of the Holbrook Church, in 1920, a Knox Church Jubillee Fund was established for ministry extension work, including some funding for the contruction of a church building at Wantagong. Land had been acquired some years earlier for 15 [pounds]. In February 1924, Mr A R McLaurin began steps to erect the church building at Wantagong. However, nothing materialized until about 1934 when another effort was made, resulting in the church building being opened and dedicated on 8/12/1936. Before the church building was erected, services had been conducted at the 'Yarra Yarra' Homestead, of Mr James McLaurin, in whose memory the church was named1. He had been for a long time been an elder of the Holbrook Presbyterian Church. The church became part of the Uniting Church in 1977. More historical information/photographs of the church/congregation are invited. Photographs uploaded 18/3/2022.
