A plaque records: Celebrations from April 16 to 19. 1988 - commemorated the centenary of - St Kilian's Church - the fourth on this site, centre of the - oldest Bendigo Parish, founded by - The Very Rev Henry Backhaus DD - in 1852 - special guests included - Archbishop of Paderborn - The Most Reverend J J Degenhardt - and Mgr Bruno Kresing VG - Mgr Bryan Long VG Administrator St Kilian's Parish - + Noel D Daly Fifth Bishop of Sandhurst.

A plaque on Bell Tower records: This Tower - has been erected - to the memory of - The Very Rev Dr Backhaus - Pioneer Priest of Bendigo 1852-1882 - who died 7 Septr 1882 aged 72 years - May he rest in peace - J O O Connell; Nee Halfpenny. A large plaque erected in May 2010 by the German Heritage Society records further information on the German Catholic Pioneers in establishing St Kilians.

The St Killan's Catholic Church, Bendigo celebrated its 150th Anniversary in 2002 with Bishop Joseph Grech. This is the fourth church on the site starting in 1851 tent, 1853 slab and canvas, 1856 stone and 1887 current weatherboard.
