A plaque in the Pioneer Park records: Heritage Chapel - This Church was built in 1909 at the nearby township of Meringandan as a Congregational Church. It was managed by the Congregational Church at Goombungee approximately 15 kilometers west of Meringandan. In those early years the minister used to walk from Goombungee to Meringandan for services, weddings, christenings and funerals. The church became Uniting in the 1970"s.

In 1995 Highfields Pioneer Park purchased the Church for removal and it was one of the first Historic Buildings moved to this site which became the Pioneer Village. It now takes pride of place in the village which has over sixty buildings and is still growing. The Village Heritage Chapel celebrated 100 years in 2009.
