The first Waterloo Congregational Chapel and Sabbath School were erected and opened at the cnr of Buckland St and Botany Rd in 1858. Services ceased in this building in 1865. For a time services were held in local rooms, until a new chapel was erected on the present site in 1865. By 1881 there was need for larger building, and the present church building, was erected on the same site, and opened in July 1884.

(Evening News - 23 July 1884)  "Waterloo Congregational Church. The Congregational Church at Waterloo was opened for religious services on Saturday last, on which occasion there was a numerous attendance. On Tuesday evening the meetings connected with the opening of ths church were continued in the form of a social tea party and public meeting. The tea party was held in the old church which is now a school room, and the public meeting was held in the new building. The church faces the main street, close to the tramway line. It is a very neat and substantial building, and is capable of accommodating about 500 people with comfort, and perhaps 600 with less cornfort."

The Waterloo Congregational Church is a self governing and independent church/congregation. More historical information/photographs of the church/congregation are invited. Photographs uploaded 21/5/2018 & 3/3/2021.
