This plaque on a rock beside the church records: This memorial rock was placed here to mark the one hundred - years of St Anne's Church, Merriwa, built and opened in - 1881, it was consecrated, and the stone altar dedicated on - October 10th 1981. May this piece of local basalt - remind the people of this parish of the rock-like faith and - devotion of the Pioneers of this district who brought the - faith and its practice here - "Thou art Peter and upon this rock I will build my church - I will give to thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven" - Mt 16:18-19.

(1) Pray - for the soul - of the - Very Rev - William Edward O'Reilly - who was Pastor of Merriwa - for 36 years - Born at Trim, Ireland, Seprember 28th 1858 - Ordained in Rome 1883 - Died October 27th 1922 - R I P.

(2) Pray for the - Soul of - Rev James T McNamara - Born at Merriwa January 21.1890 - Ordained at Sydney November 30.1921 - Died October 11.1956 - Pastor at Mayfield 20 years - First Native of this District to be - raised to the Sacred Priesthood - Requiescrat in Pace
