A tablet on the present church building records: This Church was erected - by the people of Richmond - To the Glory of God - and dedicated by the Very Rev Bede Vincent Heather DD LSC - Auxilliary Bishop to His Eminence Sir James Cardinal Freeman DD - Archbishop of Sydney - on November 28th 1982.

The St Monica's Catholic Church is part of the Parish of Richmond.

"In January 1859, Archbishop Polding laid the foundation stone for St Monica's Church Richmond and Rev Therry opened and blessed the church on May 4, 1859. Additions were made in 1897 and 1954. A new church was built in Richmond in 1982." (Extract Church Website: http://parishofrichmond.org.au/).

(Freeman's Journal - 11 May 1859)  "CONSECRATION OF THE NEW CATHOLIC CHURCH, RICHMOND.— On the 4th inst. the ceremony of consecrating the Catholic Church, at Richmond, lately completed was performed by the Very Rev. J. J. Therry, Archpriest, assisted by the Rev. Dr. Hallinan, pastor of the parish. His Grace the Archbishop being unavoidably prevented from attending, as originally intended, delegated Father Therry to the sacred office."

St Monica's celebrated its 150th anniversary on 19/9/2008.
